Susan Sings Van Heusen!

Be sure to look for the return of the re-imagined, Susan Sings Van Heusen! The acclaimed show, first presented in 2009, is back for a run later this year as we celebrate the 100 anniversary of the birth of 4-time Oscar winner and Emmy winner, Jimmy Van Heusen. Not just the composer of ring-a-ding-ding, Van Heusen wrote some of the most beautiful and sensitive music of the last century…But Beautiful, Imagination, I Thought About You, Here’s That Rainy Day, All My Tomorrows. The catalogue of more than 800 songs certainly gives a singer a wealth to choose from. In a phrase, “Aint THAT a Kick in the Head?”

Rise Up Singing

Rise Up Singing

RiseUpCoverSusan Winter has been hard at work. She has been commissioned by  the Harriet and Kenneth Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center and Archives to develop a show that would coincide with the current exhibit. The Center, located at Queensborough Community College, uses lessons from the Holocaust to educate current and future generations about the ramifications of unbridled prejudice and racism. Rise Up Singing is an eclectic program of inspiring songs from Broadway, Yiddish Theater, the folk world, movies and more about the universal struggle. Susan and her musical team, headed by in demand musical director, Alex Rybeck, have created a program to raise awareness that music, as political, social and cultural commentary, can also be used to enlighten and uplift. The show is directed by Barry Kleinbort and will be presented at the center on May 25, 2011. For more information, contact the Kupferberg Center at (718) 281-5770; Dr. Arthur Flug, Executive Director.
